Totally Biased NFL Picks: Week 15

For the fifth week in a row I, Kris Kauffman, have had the divine pleasure of writing the weekly Totally Biased NFL Picks article and I plan on doing so for the rest of the season. Besides, who else will write for the Kris Kauffman Experience? During these five short weeks, many things have happened consistently: the Broncos, Patriots and Packers have all won, oh, and Travis has lost. To put it into perspective, only the Bills, Buccaneers and Colts have a worse losing streak than good ole’ Travis. I mean, a turkey sandwich couldn’t have that bad of luck. And while on the subject of luck, you don’t get lucky for 5 straight weeks, Travie! You don’t just HAPPEN to overtake the overall standings with luck. Tim Tebow doesn’t just happen to win SIX straight games. Luck is for Las Vegas. Sorry, Travis, but if there’s one thing I’m good at it’s picking NFL games. ;)

Now on to bigger and better things. Let’s start with the Houston Texans. The Texans, even without Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson, have won 7 straight games and are proving to me more and more each week that they are, in fact, FOR REAL. The Patriots and Broncos, winners of 5 and 6 straight games respectively, are finding ways to win each and every week as they make their push for the playoffs. One of those streaks will end this week as the Patriots (10-3) head to the Mile High City to put Broncos to the test. The Packers, 13-0, are coming off one of their more showful wins of the season, beating up on the Raiders to the tune of 46-16. Say what you want about the Packers, but no one beats up on shitty defenses like they do! This week they play host to the Chiefs, of all teams, and look to keep their winning streak alive against Kansas City’s mauling defense and Tyler Palko. Something tells me the Packers will be just fine.

Tim Tebow has once again silenced the haters and doubters by coming through in the clutch late in the game against the Chicago Bears. Down ten to zip, Tebow engineered an impressive drive, going 7-7 and 63 yards, to give the Broncos their first score making it 10-7. After a few mistakes by the Bears and more “Tebow Magic” number 15 set up the game-winning field goal in overtime to put Denver over-the-top and help them improve to 8-5 on the season. Leaving me with this question: should I pick the one and only Tom Brady or the magic of Tim Tebow in week 15? Keep reading, good people.

Our always trustworthy “Lock of the Week” pick came through for us, again, here at Totally Biased with Detroit edging the Minnesota Vikings. A solid pick for us, going with the Lions, as Detroit seem to be headed for a laugher until a late Vikings surge kept the game close. The Lions held off the Vikes to go on to win 34 – 28. With another win that makes our Lock of the Week an impressive 8 -1 on the season, our only loss coming from a Baltimore game that even the most seasoned of experts wrongly picked. With Travis and I’s “In-depth look” at each and every game, why would you want to go anywhere else for your weekly picks? This week’s “Lock of the Week” features the Atlanta Falcons who play host to a struggling Jaguars team that is coming off an impressive win over the Bucs, 41 -14.

Season Standings
Kris: 77 – 40
Travis: 74 – 43
Lock of the Week: 8 – 1

Travis: Atlanta Falcons
Kris: Atlanta Falcons

Trav: Jacksonville is coming off an absolutely crushing victory over Tampa Bay, in which MJD notched four TD’s. Gabbert continued to improve, having his second straight game with two TD’s. Atlanta, however, also had a big win, notching some enormous fourth quarter touchdowns by Matt Ryan, both to Julio Jones. I like Atlanta in this one, because as we all know, Matty Ice doesn’t lose in the dome. Especially to shitty teams. There ya go, Sid.

Travis: Dallas Cowboys
Kris: Dallas Cowboys

Trav: Dallas got absolutely, vehemently destroyed by the Giants on Sunday Night. The chances they recover against the Bucs is insanely slim. Ok, ok. All joking aside, Dallas played an excellent game against Big Blue, highlighted by 4 TD’s by Romo. Even with DeMarco Murray, the young runningback phenom sidelined with a broken ankle, I like Dallas’ chances.

Travis: Green Bay Packers
Kris: Green Bay Packers

Trav: I clearly need a bold choice to catch up to Kris… Gimme the Packers. I know, I know, bold.

Travis: Chicago Bears
Kris: Seattle Seahawks

Kris: This is an improving Seattle Seahawks team, who are now 6-7, and have won 4 out of 5. Oh, and they have Marshawn Lynch! That skittles-eating, beast of a running back has run for almost 1000 yards and 9 touchdowns. I think they’ll overcome the Chicago defense that most recently lost to the Tebow himself in overtime. Also, I think Marion Barber will find a way to lose the game for them, he’s almost as good at that as Jason Garrett.

Travis: Cincinnati Bengals
Kris: Cincinnati Bengals

Kris: There’s no better team for the Bengals to face in order to get back on track than the St. Louis Rams. They’re simply awful. Bengals need this win to stay in the playoff hunt. Bengals will, in fact, win.

Travis: Tennessee Titans
Kris: Tennessee Titans

Trav: I definitely think Tennessee takes this one, but Indy’s best chance to win a game this year is right here. They are at home, and Jake Locker may be getting his first NFL start thanks to Hasselbeck’s injury.

Travis: Buffalo Bills
Kris: Buffalo Bills

Trav: Absolute snooze-fest of the week. I’d rather scratch my back with a scalding fire poker, while dangling my man parts over a Shark-infested tank. I’ll take Buffalo since Miami will be working with a new head coach.

Travis: Houston Texans
Kris: Houston Texans

Kris: There is something about the Texans that I love. Maybe its their featured running back Arian Foster, who went from undrafted rookie to one of the top backs in the league. Or it might be the Texans’ defense that, even without their top DE, Mario Williams, is still the best in the league. Whatever it is, this Houston team has clinched their very first division title and if the season ended today they would hold the #1 seed in the AFC, even over our beloved Patriots. I’ll be rooting for Houston to go all the way. Carolina has no chance, especially on the road.

Travis: New York Giants
Kris: New York Giants

Trav: The Giants have a defense that has been destroyed by injuries, and can’t seem to slow down anyone. The linebackers look confused, the secondary has communication problems, and the defensive line hasn’t been nearly as ferocious. That being said, there is no way they should lose to Washington at home. The G-Men are locked in a tight battle with Dallas to secure a playoff spot. Look for Eli to continue his fourth quarter dominance.

Travis: New Orleans Saints
Kris: New Orleans Saints

Trav: Minnesota got completely robbed by a no-call on the final play against the Lions, and did so with Joe Webb at QB. after Christian Ponder exited after a completely awful start to the contest. The Saints are coming off a surprisingly closer game against the Titans that ended when Jake Locker apparently forgot that the only thing you can’t do when you’re on the 5 yard line, with 10 seconds left, is get sacked when time expires. Oh, rookie growing pains.

Travis: Detroit Lions
Kris: Detroit Lions

Kris: After facing Green Bay last week, any team would be good for Oakland. Except for the Lions. Detroit is averaging 28 points and nearly 400 yards a game. A once promising season for the Raiders is seeming to slipping away. They need a miracle… or TIM TEBOW! Same thing, really.

Travis: Arizona Cardinals
Kris: Arizona Cardinals

Kris: Arizona has put together 3 straight wins over St. Louis, Dallas and even 10-3 San Fransisco. The future looks bright for this young Cardinals team who are 6-7 but have won 5 games out of the last 6. Cleveland sucks. Cards win.

Travis: Philadelphia Eagles
Kris: New York Jets

Trav: This one is definitely the Hazard of The Week. Philly has Vick back, so should return to at least a decent NFL squad, but don’t count on it. Gang Green needs a win to stay in the playoff hunt, and will do their damdest to shut down the athletic QB of the Eagles. I’ll take Philly in a close one.

Travis: New England Patriots
Kris: New England Patriots

Kris: Tim Tebow vs TFB. This is definitely going to be one of the best games of the week. The Patriots are prepping for the playoffs and the Broncos are trying to solidify themselves a legitimate contender in the AFC. Tebow could have a good day against the Patriots defense which has been subject to giving up a lot of yards. If the Patriots can produce 28 or more points, then I think it’s game over for Denver. The Broncos offense simply hasnt been able to generate enough points. I’ve got the Patriots winning this one… I mean, it’s TFB.

Travis: San Diego Chargers
Kris: Baltimore Ravens

Kris: If there was a week where I thought Baltimore could upset, it would be this week. San Diego has hit it’s stride, but it may be too late. I think Baltimore’s defense will be too much for the Chargers, but for playoff implications, let’s hope that San Diego pulls out the win.

Travis: Pittsburgh Steelers
Kris: Pittsburgh Steelers

Kris: This is going to be a helluva game. Both teams are 10-3 and to a win in order to have a chance for home field advantage. Both teams rank in the top 5 in almost all defensive categories and both have great running attcks. I’ve got Pitt winning, based on the fact that I don’t think San Fransisco will be able to generate enough points against Pittsburgh’s tough pass defense.
